DeSantis’s Presidential Bid
Well, the time has come, what conservatives have been hoping for and looking forward to for more than two years looks like it will be happening within the next few days.
It looks like Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is about to gear up for a presidential run and it looks like he is about to announce his run before the end of May. Now DeSantis over the past few years has been the hero for conservatives at least in a culture war setting that they have been hoping for. He has taken on the woke corporations like with his lawsuit against Disney.
Many have placed their faith in DeSantis because he is popular in Florida. If you remember, back in 2016, Florida was still a swing state with a Democratic governor. Even when DeSantis ran for governor in 2018, he only won Florida by .4%. However, the people of Florida have fallen in love with his policies. In 2022, the supposed red wave we were all expecting only happened in one state, Florida. DeSantis won the state by 19 points. In four years he turned what was a purple state into a deep red state. And this is why conservatives should throw their support toward DeSantis.
DeSantis brings everything that Republicans have been struggling with into one candidate. He is able to appeal to independents and undecided voters and reach across the aisle. While also having the ability to fight effectively against the Democrats and Progressives. The only other candidate that has a similar ability to fight would be Donald Trump, but as we know from previous elections Trump lacks the ability to reach across the aisle let alone appeal to independents and undecided voters.
While Trump has support from the base of Republicans I suspect that a great deal of that support is because he is the only declared major candidate. When DeSantis declares I believe he’s only going up. Right now as it stands in many polls DeSantis is polling around 20% among registered Republicans while Trump’s numbers vary from ahead by 20%-25%. In a campaign setting, and when he is doing more rallies he will gain more supporters.
Without a doubt in my mind, the last two candidates in this Republican primary cycle will be Donald Trump and Ron DeSantis. They have been the biggest names and the talk of the town in the 2024 presidential race context since 2020. So it comes down to asking if the Republicans will be confident nominating Trump again, who has a higher chance of losing the general election. Or Ron DeSantis, who is not as big of a name but has a better chance to beat Biden.
That’s what is most important in my opinion right now, not only for the party but for the country is getting Biden out of office. The level of confidence lost in the American government, abroad because of our current president is something no one could have predicted. On a world stage, we need a leader who makes our nation look professional right now more than ever. If I were Ron DeSantis I would advertise how professional he would take the role of POTUS. For many Americans for years, it feels like their elected leaders do not take their roles seriously, If I were DeSantis I would take this and run with it. Put a level of faith back in the United States government that has been forgotten.
So I ask you now, after knowing this, who would be the better choice for the Republican nomination?
